Society Engagement Is Announced MISS MARTHA GLENN Dr. and Mrs. Robert 0. Glenn of Mountain City, Tenn., an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Martha Greer, to William Nave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther G. Nave, also of Mountain City. Miss Glenn is a graduate of Salem Academy and a senior at Emory University, Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Nave is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and has a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois, where he is a staff member in the Agricultural Engineering Department A sum mer wedding is planned. Mrs. Gibson Speaks To Woman’s Club Thursday A state officer of the North Carolina Federation of Wo men’s Clubs, Inc., Mrs. Donald H. Gibson of Gastonia, spoke to the members of the Boone Jun ior Woman’s Club Thursday ev ening. Mrs. Gibson is currently serv ing as State Junior Historian, and is a past District 3 Junior Director and Junior chairman of Public Affairs for the state fed eration. Mrs. Gibson discussed federa tion organization and programs, beginning with the General Fed eration, an international organ ization of eleven million wo men. Progressing to the state and district programs, she pointed out that District 3 is the largest of the 16 North Carolina dis tricts with 1,414 members. Of this number, 392 women are members of 11 Junior clubs. The two Boone clubs are a part of this district. Many helpful suggestions and ideas were given concerning the local club. The informal dis cussion allowed much participa tion from members. While in Boone, Mrs. Gibson was the guest ot Mrs. Frank Auten, first vice-president, who made arrangements for the pro gram. The meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Robert Snead or Grand Boulevard, with Mrs Dempsey Wilcox, Jr., as co hostess. Presiding was the president, Mrs. Roy W. Isley. A devo tional was given by Mrs. Otis Strother. Three officers were elected to serve for the coming year, beginning in May: Mrs. James E. Rhoades, first vice-president; Mrs. Bob Baker, bulletin editor; and Mrs. William L. High, spon sor, from the Worthwhile Club. Mrs. Harvey Ayers announc ed the annual spring Rummage Sale for Saturday, April 23rd, with the location to be determ ined and announced later. JUANITA KELLEY Mrs. Juanita Kelley will give her senior piano recital Mon day, April 18 at 8 p. m. in the auditorium of I. G. Greer Hall. Juanita is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Commie Turner of Hamptonville, N. C. and the wife of Phil Kelley of Boone. Having majored in music at Appalachian State Teachers College sinee .1862, Mrs. Kelley is a student- of Walton Cole. She completed her fall quarter student teaching at Wilkes Central High School in North Wilkesboro. She is active in the choir and Training Union at the First Baptist Church. She will perform numbers by Scarlatti, Brahms. Rachmani noff, Debussy, and Leighton. Juanita will be assisted by Margaret Cantrell and Doug Harris, vocal. students of W. Hoyt Safrit John Gilliam, with April 27 as the deadline . Members brought Easter gifts for Western Carolina Center and gifts for the Hospital Ship Hope. Mrs. Isley - represented the club at the recent dinner meet ing of the Worthwhile Club. Plans were made to send del egates to the state convention in Pinehurst May 15-18. Mrs. Auten was invited to serve as a teller on Junior Day by Mrs. Gibson. At the conclusion of the meet ing, the hostesses served a des sert plate in the Easter motif. C., group, who purchased ., the Phillips property, adjacent to the;; * County Court House, for the expansion.f (Staff photo) ' Advisory Board Has Reports; Banker Cites Business Trend The Watauga County Exten sion Advisory Board met on April 7 in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Alfred Adams, Chairman of the Board presided at the meeting. W. C. Richardson, County Agricultural Agent, gave intro ductory remarks on the duty of the Advisory Board to help the extension agents formulate a total county extension program which will be for the people and by the people through the leadership of the members of the board and those serving on study committees. Adams reported on tile busi ness trends in Watauga County. Mrs. E. B. Fox Jr. gave the family living report which in volves all County people. The youth report was given by Mrs. R. G. Shipley. Jerry Adams emphasized young couples in his Commun ity Development Report. After these reports each of the different groups met in a short session to discuss prob lems and future plans.
